Janina Tiner, BSN, RN, MMFT, LMFT
For the past 15 years, Janina has helped her clients find emotional and spiritual healing through her innovative and cutting-edge approach to traditional counseling. As a psychotherapist, Janina brings a keen awareness of physical and emotional nuances to her work with clients.
Janina is a Certified Level 3 Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist. IFS helps those struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety or depression, or those caught up in unwanted interactions with others by teaching them to identify negative thought patterns, critical inner voices, and ineffective defense or coping mechanisms. Through a guided process, the compassionate calm within may be accessed thereby resolving internal and external conflicts. The client then is freed to live life from a place of courage, calmness, clarity, confidence, connectedness, curiosity and creativity.
Janina interweaves the IFS approach with her Level 2 EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training to resolve trauma and anxiety. As a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, Janina maintains the belief that unresolved grief plays a part in almost every case. Left unacknowledged, grief has the power to negatively define people, stunting their emotional and spiritual growth. To that end Janina helps clients learn how to grieve well and incorporate loss into their lives in a meaningful and restorative way.
As a supportive foundation for the other modalities, Janina employs her knowledge of and experience in Emotional Stewardship, principles that embody responsible planning and management of our God given resources of emotions. This new awareness of God given emotions, versus those feelings that we as humans often impair, provides an infrastructure that helps people correctly identify and authentically express feelings in ways that improve relationships and live fuller lives.
Janina offers Intensives for those individuals desiring a deeper dive into addressing constraints causing present difficulties to affect a more immediate and lasting change. These IFS/EMDR informed Intensives are custom tailored to meet client goals and needs by working with the subconscious brain. The typical schedule for an Intensive is meeting 3 clock hours daily, Monday – Friday for 1 – 4 weeks. Janina has found the ‘sweet spot’ to be 3 weeks. Intensives are a great opportunity for those individuals seeking more than what standard weekly sessions can provide and are not quite ready to commit to an in-patient treatment experience. Janina often collaborates with other therapists who temporarily refer to her their existing clients who may be at a stuck place and can benefit from this deeper immersive experience.
Janina lives in Brentwood, Tennessee. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a background in Intensive Care Nursing. Janina and her husband, David, have been married for 41 years and have three adult children and three grandchildren.
